1962:
November , Formed first Group "The Barons"
1963:
February, Recorded first original song, (A)"Mary-Ann"(B) "Poison Ivy" 45 single record, (K-Bee Label) Murray Bridge.
1963-July 6th : Badly injured in motorcycle accident-recovering for 12 months
1966, whilst studying, learnt to play guitar and started singing and playing around Folk/Coffee Houses of Adelaide.
1966-September: Left Art School, worked every folk club in town, gaining a huge following, (especially "The Catacombs")while spreading the "gospel according to Bob Dylan". Duo with Brian(Sam) Sampson, double bass/tenor harmonies
1966: "poached" by a pop/rock band "Rob'n'Robin & the Batmen". Re name band "Inkase", support to "The Twighlights",also major bands like, "The Loved Ones" etc. Now full-time music. Resident at Club 123 A Go Go, Pirie Street,Adelaide.Managed by Melbourne entrepeneurs Eddie Young & Bob Spicer
1967-1968
Other bands, i.e. "Resurrection", "Black Watch"
1968: Working Adelaide Botanic Gardens full time. Back to original roots, guitar, harmonica, vocal, acoustic-concentrating on song writing.
1968: September, Won SA New Faces. November, National New Faces Grand Final ,runner-up.
1969: Still working full time, playing solo gigs & with various "out -there" ensembles, including:"D' Naz", an amazing conglomerate of Adelaide's finest musicians- a big band with a bang- Steve front man, vocals, harmonica, Doug Ashdown, vocals, electric guitar, Peter Beagley, organ, Roger Frampton, alto saxaphone & piano, Schmo, tenor sax, Bob Jeffries, trumpet, Peter MacCormack, drums, Peter Goodrich, bass. Residency at Whiskey A Go-Go“The Mount Lofty Rangers”, a project band, featuring  Bon Scott ( AC/DC), Steve, Trev Warner, violin, Peter Beagley & various Adelaide musicians & artists presented ‘mixed media’ performances.
1969 November: Moved to Sydney. Heavily involved with the anti-war movement, & working in folk clubs such as the "The Oxford Club", etc. while campaigning with his songs to end  the Vietnam War.
1970: Christmas time back in Adelaide and the Botanic Gardens. Now working solo acoustic and mainly song writing.
1971 Played  Myponga Festival
1972: Adelaide Festival of Arts, workshop format, speaking about song writing and playing his new material. Offered a deal to record his first album, on a new label founded by Brian Cadd, called "Bootleg", which was an umbrella label under Ron Tudor's record label Fable Records.
1972: September. Debut Album * “Coming Home In a Jar" recorded at AAV, engineered by the extraordinary Ern Rose, and released in September 1972. Sold very well. Album won 5KA 's rock award for significant contribution to recording.Promoted heavily by  5KA DJ, John Vincent
1972, April-1973, December
: Working out of Melbourne, as opening act for the "Bootleg Family", Australia wide concerts."Bootleg Family" line-up: Steve Foster-opening act, Dutch Tilders-blues singer, Kerry Biddell-Sydney jazz singer, the Band of Talabene ( Phil Manning, Tony Naylor, guitars, etc.) also acts as Brian Cadd's backing band, &  Mississippi , forerunner to Little River Band . 
1972-1973:
Played the "Campus Circuit" throughout Victorian Universities, with "Chain" guitarist Phil Manning.
1972-1974
:Recorded jingles, commercials at Armstrong Studios, Sth. Melbourne, for Peter Best & Bruce Woodley.
1973: Performed first singer/songwriter concert, Melbourne Town Hall with Ross Ryan, Mike McLellan,Doug Ashdown
1974:
Back in Adelaide. Formed a folk-rock group called "Alcheringa" (Pitjitjinjara for the Dreamtime) with Steve on acoustic guitar, Graham Davidge on electric guitar and flute, Clive Harrison( later with "Kush") on bass, Graeme Perry (now drummer with Melbourne band "The Glory Boys") on drums and Lester Whahlquist on electric fiddle. Recorded 10 tracks in AAV, Melbourne for Ron Tudor.
